- Ahh! The mucho awaited Snickers Commercial is finally available on AdCritic! If you are in the U.S.A. or have followed our presidential race at all, you need to see this. A candy commercial has made most political statire look stale and
weak. I love this spot, I've been telling people about it for days. I was almost convinced I had dreamed it, since no one I know has seen it yet. =)

- A fine quote from Perl Monks that partiularly caught my eye:
On the whole, I think the more seasoned of us prefer to think that we're realists. It doesn't matter if the glass
is half-full or half-empty. The relevant question is "Who drank out of it?"

- Full Contact Origami is a pretty good strip, with bonus EQ humor thrown in.
ChoppingBlock however is a strip of pure evil. Explodingdog just is.
Also, as I continue my obsession with the links down the left side, I have been thinking that the comics marked "Weekly" need little letters after em that say which day they tend to be new.
Also, I've been putting up all these about the blog posts without marking them Meta like I used to. D'oh. The hell if I'm going back to fix em now, tho. Also, maybe the links would be better with subtle variations between lines, for those browsers that toe the line and occasionally wrap the damn links in the sidebar. In Netscape 4.7, "The Japanese" and "Beetle" look like different strips. Grr.

- At work this past week I've been working on C (the language) rather than my preferred Perl (The lifestyle =). It's driving me nuts having to change languages for one program. I get home from work more than an hour and a half late and have to force myself not to start working on it from here. I'm looking at the "Cow" book right now. *sigh*
Sometimes I really regret having taken up my favorite hobby as my job.

- Just a quickie for those who have been actively investigating the "How do I outfit my compound to avoid the nasty ol' gubmint, while maintaining my comfortable geek lifestyle?" conundrum. See also Clean living using dirt!. Or if that one is broken/wierd, try this one: EarthShip.org.

- So I said back in an older post that I didn't know what "Gomen Nasai" meant in Japanese. Turns out to be answered just a couple days later on MegaTokyo:
"The question has already been asked and
answered in the forum, but 'gomen' and 'gomen
nasai' mean 'I'm sorry' (adding '-nasai' makes it
more formal)"
Handy! On the otherhand, none of the permalinks fricking work. Am I the only person on
Blogger that wants them in a subdirectory? WTF? I've tried just about every variation I can.

- Quotes from movies done right. I'm not sure if I like the layout or his choices better...
Dark Angel ripping off Heinlein's Friday? The more I think about it the madder I get =)

- I have a number of friends playing an EarthDawn game. CheeseMaster hasn't yet come up in conversation yet. I bet it will soon. Tigers don't have any place in EarthDawn, do they?
Did you know that Google has a directory service now? Speaking of cats again. "Hang in there, baby" *snort*

- APARTMENT AD? APARTMENT AD? No way... I just don't believe it. *sniff* Why does reality have to suck so much. Where is the dream we once had of the "coonballs" ad? Animals with breast enlargements, hot furry animals... Dashed upon the rocks of an apartment complex. Uhh, the company site has a complete break down on this, in japanese =( Check out the "Character" link!

- OK, Slashdot may be telling the geeks to head off to SatireWire to read Sally Strother's Save the DotComs but I have to say, this is much funnier Pullquote!
"Jesus,
no wonder those guys lost the war and had to give Hong Kong back to Canada."
Oh yeah, Privacy gets funnier everyday. The Next Amazon becomes truer every day. And Factory orders just sits there, at the pinnacle of funny, day after day.

- WaitAllDay.com is a fine way to waste an entire domain on a single joke. (Watch the status bar...)
Oh man, I had a great waiting for posts from the missing site helpers joke ready and fucking Chili goes and finally posts. He has forgotten in the intervening weeks that I told him to set up a nickname if he wanted
to see his name on the page tho...

- FIAT LUX. So next time you are looking to shell out some of your hard earned money on a lightsource, check out
this site. Especially if you don't like changing batteries. :-)
And if you are feeling especially generous, I'll take one of these.
FIAT VOLUNTAS MA. And if you feel like your home life just ain't quite geeky enough, or you really think having to flip a switch
doesn't meet your user-friendly needs, try out this gadget. Just don't wire it to the door locks.
And I still want someone to buy me one of these. I don't have enough vehicle-derived scars. Really.

- Hmm While I'm fixing those links I'm going to tweak how they are laid out. I'll move away from the current "Random-wacky-ass-which-ever-one-I-spot-next" sorting method to a more coherent order.
Maybe with nice little headings that mark when they update and some order of importance or something. Also, it seems I typoed a couple, minor things like spaces in compound words. I such a sloppy webmaster... =) Thank god they keep paying me at work, huh?
Update done, now does it suck or not? Lord, I'll wind up having to do this for the blogs too...

- Garr, in the dark of a new night (fucking 3pm-midnite work schedule is ruining all my intros...)
I have spotted some of the missing links and a few bonus new ones. I just plain overlooked Bobbins. Tang fell thru the cracks when I lost bookmarks
in a nasty crash.
New ones: Unicorn Jelly needs watching...
Exploitation Now! just seems wrong in the good way
Tuesday David's Comic. Love the stick figures.
Gomen Nasai Even context clues aren't enough for me to figure out if GN is just a name or a joke.
Unicorn and Butterfly in glorious ASCII, wow!

- Mmmmm...literature goodness. I've recently rediscovered an old literature friend. Now my friend is fresher in my memory than before. I can even help others gain a better understanding of it. Then you have crossover stories, and sometimes crossover stories are just silly. Then you have strange commercial attempts that just confuse. But at least you can die happy knowing you can play chess with my friend. You can even see how my friend would've fared with a different parent. Ah yes, it is good to have my friend back in my life.

- Oh boy lets see how the new sidebar looks, Oh fuck that is a lot of links... I'm a shameful pathetic net.addict of the worst sort... Worst thing is I'm being tortured with thoughts that I missed a few important ones. Keeping in mind that I just dug thru (grep'ed for the unix types) thru the bookmark files from 11 browser installs on three machines. I'm completely insane...
Apathy! I missed that one...
But there is more, I just know it... *sob* I'm going to bed and perchance dream about
They Might Be Giants covering Dancing Queen by Abba in the Style of Toto. (too many weird MP3s
while beating out html)
If you feel you have been left off the list by mistake, please start
crying like a little girl who has just had her nose sliced clean off with a thresher. Surely I'll feel sorry for you after that and the noise of it is entirely unmistakable. And, no, I like calling you Shirley =P

- Two quotes from diverse locations I found remarkable today. From PolymerCity:
...the nature of online gaming means you have to come up with a
ridiculous amount of regulation because humanity, by nature, leaves the manufacturing plant with "idiot" as the default setting.
and from this weeks The Onion:
"Maybe we need to stop
thinking of this as a
Mideast crisis and just
think of it as Mideast
culture."
Couldn't have said it better myself... not that I'm particularly fly at layin' down the fresh verbage with smack-ass flair...

- Speaking of Comics.. I've posted on them before it seems:
- First, the inestimable is that a word, even? joe the circle post.
- Waaay back in January I posted some faves and promised more...
- Hmm a quick mention back in January again.
- Brian's site, ouch, March...
- Doh One comic gets a shout out in JULY.
- I obliquely mentioned one in August.
- One teensy mention in September... Or two
So what is the point? I owe ya a real post/page on comics... From almost a year ago...
Also, we've learned I can mine my own archives for topics... =P

- These kixazz links come at ya from my boss' wife. Hi Kim. This officially brings the readership
up to 11 and we are well on the way to having more readers than posters. Of course, since only
3 of the fuckers who wanted to post have, we are actually approaching 2x readers vs. ACTUAL
posters. I should boot the bozos and add Kim, at least she sends me links...
- Spam rap off of the fabo Satire Wire which recently changed names from the who
knewd it wus supposed ta be funny FNWire.
- Creepy yet funny link off of McSweeneys, which I always resolve to read but never do.
Mental note, read McSweeneys
- Bee Juice. If you have any brain in your head, you will read that just to see WTF it is about. Now
imagine it being promoted here in the U.S. by the same assholes who do the Mt.Dew™ or Surge™
commercials.
Once there were two bees, one, the Don't Bee, never drank Bee Juice and
became a useless web programmer in a post-web market. The other, the Bee who Did drink Bee Juice went on to IPO a hybrid clicks&mortar company and sell out at the peak of market hype.
Remember kids, drink Bee Juice, don't be a Don't Bee, Do be a Do Bee do waaaaah...
- Rules for punctuation from Bob the Angry Flower. I've been a Angry Flower fan for years. It makes me cry. Recent fave and an old fave or two or three I'm crying... having trouble typing...
Thanks Kim =)

Oct 17 14:21:49 ns1 dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:06:29:xx:xx:xx via xx.xxx.xxx.xx
Very cool, switches that can pass DHCP back over a VLAN. Mmmm, Cisco makes cool toys... Now we have to figure out which Intel-carded machine is crying for mommy... No soup for you!

- Hmm too much tinkering with the site means no slick hipsta linkage. Not that there was much of that slick thing going on here anyway. 6 people on the list to post, only 3 of them ever bothered, at all.
So fuck em =)
Latin for Mountain Men moved on me when I wasn't looking. I'm still not really sure why it's called that but it actually has
helped me puzzle out a few phrases...
Style Master isn't nearly as "giant-robotic-versace" as you night think, in fact it's all about CSS and web stylesheets. Been an invaluable reference in
the past few days of tinkering. Damn shame the latest style on the site itself makes me want to scream...
Comics I Don't Understand may hold a record for the site I have been visiting semi-regularly the longest. I've been a fan long enough to
remember when his first site on Concentric nearly got him booted off their service. He was hiding
the graphics on other sites like geocities to spread the load around and keep the page free. Now
he has permanent home on Miningco err.. about.com uhh. Crimeweek. Hi Bilbo! =)
DrFun. is just killing me recently...
EvilOverLord Must remember
to study this again, getting rusty. The maniacal laugh is coming back...
