BTW, every city on this continent has a 100 E or 100 W Main Street so you can get directions from the center of almost anywhere to the center of almost anywhere else without actually having a real destination in mind. =)

So after some debating internally I have decided to get out of town for my vacation. This of course means that I'm not likely to be able to update the blog so the few of you who read this one once in a while now have a chance to get out of the habit and never come back. =)

My basic plan so far is to go to Detroit. Why Detroit? I've never been to the great lakes or gone farther north than Chicago in this part of the country. And if I get excitable and can find my birth certificate I may press on to Toronto and loop around to Buffalo and come back by way of Columbus OH. OTOH I may not if I get sick of driving by Detroit.

I've been to quite a number of states but I've never hit either Michigan or New York, so that would be nice to check off two in one trip. And getting to dip my hands in a great lake would be nice, let alone making a trip to Canada. Though if I have to add all the Canadian provinces to my check of list that will actually set me back numbers-wise. =)

An alternate plan bounces me off of Grand Rapids and then Sault St. Marie and then west to Wisconsin and then back to Chicago by way of Green Bay and Milwaukee. Then I could tick off Wisconsin. Hmmm. But no _big_ city in Canada... hmmm.

I will make an effort to hit various libraries on the way up (Or maybe Kinko's) and post something If I can but expect me to be incommunicado for a while. And expect a shit-load of whinging when I get back about how full my mail boxen are if I don't make it to any computers for a week.

There will be more on this before I leave tomorrow...

Ok, this is weirder then anything I get in my breakfast cereal. Art for sale on Ebay.

If I say "Shower Games" and "Special Touches" and maybe "Themes" you probably still wouldn't guess I was talking about these showers. Damn.

You'd think they'd go back in time and grab a shorter fricking domain...

Those came from xone.net. xone.org is interesting in its own right. A nice spare design makes for a clean personal site with high weirdness only peeking out here and there. The .com never responded.

A friend tells me that NetZero may stop providing free access. I guess the joke from a year ago is true, NetZero is their financial plan...

Annoyances.org amused me. It was a good book, I'm glad a whole site popped up for dealing with the issues, I'll have to drop in there again...

As if Dr. Fun isn't funny enough normally, this is one comic I can relate to now... Ouch! And, honestly, my eyes looked just like that.

Bunker Buster statistics and info. They also have a GPS Guided version (37/B) that doesn't need a doofus with shoulder mounted laser pointer (no, you can't them from Radio Shack.) The rumor going around now is they are talking stuffing a pony-nuke in something like this and popping it off. I sure hope they don't do something so stupid. It will be way cheaper just to send the another normal one down the hole the first one makes. =)

Heh. Plus, here are a few gems from other awards "extra links" and forums...

Cs 133 sounds like fun stuff. RFB on the other hand, doesn't.

Who wants to be a Software Mogul?

Today a friend at work is tinkering with Windows XP and he discovers there is a "Remote Help" button. That leads to a menu where one of the options is "Ask a Friend". So, of course, I say "does it also have 50/50?" to which he replies, "Oh yeah... and the OK button is actually 'Is that your final answer?'".

I think this is a great idea. Whenever the GUI presents you with too many choices you can pick from "Ask a Friend", "Ask the Chat Room", and "50/50"; however you only get one each per day!

A handy U.S. Constitution site will plenty of meat on the bones. In these trying times go read up on what makes ours unique even in today's world.

Let me guess... the Robohouse question that decides if you're Data or not is the "Do you like Bill Clinton?" one....
9:29:35 AM by mark *
If you answer 1 question on the Robohouse robot quiz you get stuck with Data. I happily changed just about every answer other than that one without ever getting a single other robot. That sucks, folks.

I'm taking this offline from work so I don't get us sued or me fired:

You fucking moron, your fucking, fucking moron. If you aren't damn smart enough to find and read up on how the robots.txt file works on a server (mine) then why the fuck are you continually bothering me and whining about copyright theft when you can't even fucking prove they did anything other than look at 40 urls. You simpering, snivelling, libellous, whiny prick. You fatuous, gasbag, net-lawyer wannabe, useless webgrub pdf-using-pud! Jerk.

Phew, I feel better now, thanks...

The Snopes Urban Legend's page on Rumors of War is a great debunking and collection of facts for those about to send me a pile of war-related garbage wherein Nostrildamnup blows his nose and predicts that fools in the future will see devils in the smoke of buildings blown up due to lesbianism as part of a plot to sell more bottled water in New York.

And BTW, in this article about the old NYC wingdings font rumor that has cropped back up, the link to Penn Jillette's article should be this rather than a self referential jump link. =) Penn is a funny guy...

Heads up for ya: Last year's slang (dude that isn't just dope, that is da b0mb!) and this year's airline travel restrictions (bend over, cough,) may lead to next year's felony conviction...

I got 14 of 15 right in Robots or Programming Languages and I'm bitter because I changed off the right answer to number 3 (AMOS) just before switching. Whata geek...

I am really annoyed with "argument by inconception" becoming so popular. "I can't hardly believe they are that doing that." "It is almost inconceivable that life doesn't exist somewhere else in the universe." "I can't see that being possible."

I understand the ironic or sarcastic nature of the statements and actually I usually agree with the sentiments expressed, even moreso than the speakers might guess. See, what they are really saying is "My imagination is weak so I must be right." or "I'm really stupid so you can't convince me I'm wrong." What they mean, of course, is that the probability is warped to one end of the scale or another. Most people have a good feel for likelyhood when they have the numbers in front of them. And so, I tend to agree with their postulate and with the sentiment. Yes, my friends, you are both right and feeble-minded. Enjoy!

Ah, I finally added GagPipe to the page. I suppose with a war on we'll need more cheering up. And Osama can take his "will live in fear until" crap somewhere else, we're not looking over our shoulder, kiddo, we're looking over monitors to watch the bombings, the tactical missle strikes, and the decent people in Afghanistan finally get a meal and some medicine.

I'd sure like to see him and his second taken alive. Then once the bleeding hearts in the U.N. demand that he not face the death penalty we get to watch him rot in prison, denied his martyr's death and ensured of having something to fondly recall once he arrives in the real hell of Na'ar once into feeble, forgotten old age.

If you play with Mozilla or Netscape 6 you might want to check out the OptiMoz Gestures toolbar. Click on "get it" and try it out. Neato fun. I wish they'd just make a control panel for it so I could set my own gestures and I'd like the middle button to work and I wish the "open a link in a new window" stroke would put "undefined" on the end of the current link if you don't actually stroke over any links but folks the thing is 0.2.1 and I'm hooked...

Oh, 0.2.2 is out but has a nasty bug with your bookmarks, wait for 0.2.3 or better...

I feel bad about not posting yesterday. Not that I truly feel that I have to post everyday, but because I had a good idea all worked out and now all those thoughts are lost. OTOH, I got in some much needed goofing off including seeing Zoolander. A suprising number of cameos are laced throughout this film. I'm tempted to go back to try and figure out who the shadowy four were. I'm pretty sure one of the ladies was Amy Poehler of Upright Citizen's Brigade "fame" and the "tourettes" lady from Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigelo. I didn't have time to sort out the rest. And of course they aren't listed on IMDB
